The CVG Basketball league opened last October 13, 2006 at RFM Gym. The first game fetured the E-Mail Routerrs Team vs. The CVG Elite Team. The game was close all throughout with the E-mail team taking the lead from the much favored CVG Elite Team. The game was decided on the fourth quarter . CVG Elite's Art Ramos made a game winning three pointer as time expired to grab the lead from the E-Mail Routers. The second game of the opener was also a close one. The QSP team went up against the Rookies team. The QSP team led by 7 in the fourth quarter courtesy of the heroic efforts of Kiko "Aerial Voyager" Fababier.
Arvin "Ben Wallace" Unabia also contributed to the QSP team's supremacy during that game. But the Rookies team made a furious comeback led by Peter Spandonis and Benjo Dela Chica. The Rookies one by one point against the much favored QSP Team
The October 20 game was more exciting than the opening games. The Encore team led by Nat Anumba and Ryan Sicat gave Encore a big lead. The DSL/L2 team led by Chester Yulo single handedly carried this team by scoring 27 points. In the second half, the DSL/L2 team made a furious rally. They cut the lead to eight points. But it was Anumba's scoring that increased the lead for the Encore team. Encore won by 17 against the young DSL/L2 team. The second game between the Wildcats Basketball Team and the German Cats was more exciting. If the first game was a high scoring game this game exceeded the first game in terms of scoring. The German Cats took a 4-0 lead courtesy of Jeng Viado. Then Koji "T-Mac" Eusebio went on a scoring spree. The rest of the team followed his lead. Helping Koji was Popet Patrimonio who scored 16 points and fired away from three point range and also Karl Nepomuceno who also scored in double figures before suffering a sprain. The turning point of the game came when Erwin "The Glove" Del Monte and Wowie "The Flash" Montezon came in the game. They pressured the guards of the German Cats team and that spelled disaster for the German Cats team. The WildCats led by 20 points all throughout the game. The German Cats would try to get back in the game through the heroic efforts of Rico "Shaq Diesel" San Pablo and Jeng "The Slasher" Viado. But their efforts were not enough to bring their team back. Everytime the German Cats tries to get back in the game, Koji "T-Mac" Eusebio would launch his three pointers against this team and that simply broke their backs. Koji "T-Mac" Eusebio led the way for the Wildcats. He scored 27 pts grabbed 12 rebounds and rejected 5 shots. Ryan Teodoro also added 11 rebounds for the Wildcats. They were supported by Erwin Del Monte and Ivy Canlas who both scored 10 points. This was a David and Goliath battle since the German Cats had five big men as compared to the Wildcats team that only had two big men. |
